Usage notes

Chiefly used as a case mesoclitic, as seen at Grammar: Word formation § oben. Corresponds to the Dumi language's -mi suffix (van Driem (1993), p. 76https://books.google.com/books?id=YVWtaeE5WgoC).

According to this page on Mizo customs, courtesy of the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, National Informatics Centre, Mizoram State Centre, India:

A [Mizo] daughter or a wife can inherit property only if the deceased has no heir on the male side. Women, however, are entitled to their own property. The drowry[sic], called thuam, she gets during the marriage from her parents is exclusively her own property. However, a written 'will' formally executed may now confer woman the right to inherit the family property. This is a happy amendment to the traditional customary laws.

Chamorro is an Austronesian language spoken in Guam; Mizo and Dumi are both related to Mandarin as part of Sino-Tibetan .

A broader term is óbraid (gift).
